Last night I took my wife’s family out to eat at Yamashiro to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday. I’ve been to Yamashiro a few times before and it is definitely a restaurant worth checking out. They have an amazing Japanese garden in the center of the restaurant and if the weather is good then you have to eat in the garden. All of their food is good but some of their dishes really knock you off your feet. Here is my Yamashiro Review. One of the great dishes they serve is their lobster… The picture speaks for itself.
One dish that caught me off guard was their pulled pork carnitas. It has this Asian and Hispanic twist that really packs a lot of good favors. If you like sweet BBQ then you have to try this starter.
They also have good crab cakes but the starter I highly recommend is their Spicy Tuna on Rice Crackers that is shown behind the crab cakes. I don’t know what it is, but something about the cold spicy tuna mixing with the warm rice cracker really does a number on my taste buds. It also helps That the rice cracker has a perfect balance of crispy shell and soft center.
Now if you like fish than you must try their cod. I know it doesn’t look amazing, but this was a perfectly cooked fish that was mouth wateringly delicious. This was my sister-in-law’s dish but next time I go back I will probably order this dish (or the lobster).
My dish was the American Wagyu Sirloin Steak. Now this steak was a damn good steak. The problem for myself is that I set myself a really high standard on steaks because I love Prime Rib-eye and I cook it myself. So although the Wagyu lived up to its expectation I couldn’t help but think about my own ribeye or even better a Wagyu Rib-eye… if only they had Rib-eye.
Now if you like sweets, and more specifically donuts, than you must try Yamashiro’s doughnuts. They are filled with strawberry jam and served with a sweet dipping sauce. Let’s just say they beat the socks off Krispy Cream doughnuts.
If you can only have one dessert then I say go for their dessert sushi platter. They actually make a sushi platter of fruits and other sweets. The wasabi is green tea ice cream, the ginger is actually shaved cantaloupe, and their sushi are fruits and cream. Overall this is a great dessert to end your meal on.
