Normally I only blog about human food, but I had to do a Just Food For Dogs product review because I am a huge dog lover and I am glad that a company near me is serving healthy dog food. Our dog Bubba eats better than most collage students, ever since he was a puppy we’ve kept him on a natural and organic diet. For the past few years he has been eating organic chicken from Trader Joe’s mixed with Orijen Adult Grain-Free Dry Dog Food. Here is a picture of Bubba with my daughter Juliet.
Although we feed him healthy food and we even make him dog treats by dehydrating organic chicken breast at home, I wanted to try Just Food For Dogs to see how good their quality was. As a new parent I can understand how difficult it is to find time to make healthy food at home, for your family as well as your pets. Luckily, Just Food For Dogs was started by dog lovers that weren’t happy with the current dog food that is on the market so they came up with a solution to this exact problem. let’s take a look at what they have to offer.
One item that I thought was really cool was their DIY kit which contains their recipe and nutrients that you add into the food to ensure a balanced meal. I think this is a great product for people like me that make their own dog food at home, but still want to ensure their pet gets a well balanced diet. From a marketing perspective this is great because most people might try to make it themselves once, but quickly realize how much work it is to make healthy dog food at home.
Just Food For Dogs offers premium quality dog food made fresh in the USA. They are located in Newport Beach, CA and they offer everything from whole meals to treats and even supplements. Above is a picture of some of their most popular treats. Bubba loves chicken so I know he is going to love their chicken breast treats. They also have a pumpkin treat and a chicken apple bark treat, but what I am really interested in is their fresh made but shipped frozen whole meals. Here are some pictures of their product packaging when purchasing whole meals.
On the outside there is a foam layer that insulates the inside of the box.
Inside the insulation you will find a thermal package, which contains the frozen dog food mixed with dry ice.
I was very impressed with their product packaging, all of the frozen dog food that I received was rock solid and felt like it just came out of an industrial freezer.
Above is a picture of the various meals that I got: Chicken & Rice, Beef & Russet Potato, Pork Tenderloin & Fuji Apple, Turkey & Whole Wheat Macaroni, Lamb & Brown Rice, Fish & Sweet Potato and Venison & Squash. I really like Just Food For Dogs website because they offer a ton of information about their products: Product Info, Ingredients, Labels, Daily Feeding Chart, Feeding Trial as well as Food Facts.
Bubba’s favorite meat is chicken, so for this Just Food For Dogs product review I am testing out the Chicken and White Rice shown above. Here is a video showing what this look like after it is thawed. I figured it would be easier to show you via a video then through pictures.
As you can see from the video, the Chicken and Rice is Bubba approved. I will update this post as Bubba tries more of their meals.
11/3/15 Update
Yesterday I had Bubba try the Pork and Fuji Apple meal.
Here is another quick time lapse video showing Bubba eating his meal.

I have been making my own dog food for 7 years from organic chicken sweet potatos, carrots, and broccoli. I put it thru a kitchen aid food prosseser and freez it for a weeks supply. Just for dogs products seams like a simpler alternative. Im going to give it a try.
Hi Randy,
Yeah, Just Food For Dogs is a great alternative to making it yourself. If you buy in bulk they are also reasonable in price. Depending on where you are located, you may want to invest in a freezer box so you can just buy in bulk and store it at home so you don’t have to keep spending a ton of money on shipping. My dog loves their chicken and rice.
