Ginzaya Sushi (Irvine, CA)

My wife and I have been searching for a good sushi spot around our area (Tustin/Irvine) because our regular sushi restaurant recently closed down.  Our old spot wasn’t the best sushi restaurant around but they had a really good Poke and Chirashi Bowl which was what made us go there on a regular basis.  However, since they shut down we’ve been trying different sushi restaurants and we finally found our new spot… Ginzaya Sushi!

Tuna Salmon Brick Roll

Now Ginzaya isn’t cheap, but at the same time they are reasonably priced for the quality of fish they serve.  If you are looking for cheap sushi around Irvine/Tustin then check out Full Moon Sushi, but if you are looking for quality then I recommend going to Ginzaya.  One of my favorite rolls there is their Tuna and Salmon Brick Roll, it is like a high end sushi masubi that just burst with amazing flavor in your mouth. Not the most filling sushi for the price, but it is well worth it if you care about taste.

Jalapeno Hamachi Roll - Ginzaya Sushi

Another roll that I really like is their Jalapeno Hamachi Roll.  If you aren’t the type that likes spicy food then you probably want to get a different roll, but if you like some heat then this one is a winner.  Personally, I think the combination is perfect because the Hamachi (yellow tail) has a sweetness to it that is countered by the slice of jalapeno.  So although you get the heat in every bite, it isn’t overbearing because the rice and Hamachi balance it out well.

Oh My Gosh Roll Ginzaya Sushi

This is the Oh My Gosh Roll (yes, they actually name it this and the name actually fits because when you see it you will say OMG!).  When you read the ingredients on the menu it sounds a bit weird because it has tuna, crab, avocado, and mint along with some other things.  However, what they don’t tell you is that mint is tempura mint that hold up a mountain of crab/tuna mixture with a slice of avocado on top.  I really liked this, although it does take some skill to eat since it is so large.

Big Daddy Roll Ginzaya sushi

Another tasty roll they have is called the Big Daddy Roll which is basically a California roll with salmon on top and a shrimp tempura too.  I think it is great on taste but this is more of a tasty roll that is heavy on the sauce whereas the Jalapeno Hamachi roll is more of a light and fresh roll.

This is just a small sample of the rolls that Ginzaya has to offer.  They also have sashimi, mussels, udon, and many other sushi restaurant favorites.  Even though they are not the best sushi restaurant (Akasaka still holds that position in my book), they are still a great sushi restaurant that I would recommend to my friends and family.
