For my mother’s birthday my brother and I took her to Bistro 45, a nice little restaurant in Pasadena, CA. I am a big fan of well prepared duck and I read another review online that said Bistro 45 had some really nice duck so I had to try it. They also had some really nice vegetarian friendly dishes which my step father could enjoy.
I enjoyed the duck because it was cooked very well, not over done at all and the sauce was really tasty. The duck comes with a roasted breast and a confit leg. It was served with kabocha squash, wilted Brussls sprouts, and a cashew jus (sauce). This is definitely a must try for anyone who likes duck.
My brother ordered the Pork Chop which were pretty good. I normally do not order pork chops because most restaurants tend to over cook them (aka DRY pork chop). Therefore, I usually cook my own pork chops so I can make sure they are prepared the way I like them (nice and juicy). Bistro 45 did a great job on their Pork Chop though because it was perfectly cooked. They served it with Hickory smoked butterball potatoes, cured bacon, Chinese Long beans, carrot puree, and sherry vinegar glaze.
Now the original reason I found Bistro 45 was because my wife found this restaurant that served Chocolate Soup. Well, it turns out this dessert is called chocolate Soup although, it isn’t really a soup at all. However, it was a very good Chocolate dessert. It is a chocolate baked soufflé served with Vanilla ice cream and a warm chocolate sauce that you pour into the soufflé after you open it. According to my wife it was amazing… obviously I didn’t want to lose my life in trying to steal a bite (I know better than to get in between my wife and chocolate).
