One of my favorite desserts is good bread pudding. It is a simple dessert, but that just means it is simple to mess up. As long as you understand that all you are doing is making a sweet custard with stale bread, it is all about layering flavors. So if you want a plain bread pudding then used normal stale white bread. I choose to go with a flavored stale bread like stale vanilla cake.
—-Side Note—-
Another great combo for Bread Pudding is Banana Nut Bread with a Almond flavored custard.
Create a standard custard (cream, egg yolks, and sugar) but make it on the sweet side and add real vanilla extract. Make the custard and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour to let the flavors develop (few hours would be better). Then combine with the stale bread and let that sit in the fridge over night so the bread fully absorbs all of the custard. Bake like a standard custard in a container half full of water. While it is baking make a sauce with whatever fruit you want to serve this with (I chose blackberry and mandarin oranges). Let cool for at least 30 minutes before serving (if it is too hot it will fall apart).
