How to properly cut Cauliflower

The title of this post might seem strange because some people might be thinking, who doesn’t know how to cut a Cauliflower?  You would be surprised as how many people don’t know how to properly cut Cauliflower, which is why so many people either buy them pre-cut and pay twice the price or all of their Cauliflower pieces of straight edges so their cutting board is riddled with tiny broken pieces of the Cauliflower florets.  When cutting a Cauliflower, you have to cut from the bottom so that the florets stay together and maintain their nice “tree like” shape.

(Step 1) Cut a pyramid shape into the base of the Cauliflower, this will remove the outer leaves while also allowing you to easy break apart the whole Cauliflower into smaller manageable pieces.  To break it apart, just grab Cauliflower so your thumbs are on the inside of the pyramid cutout then gently pull the Cauliflower apart.

(Step 2) The Cauliflower should break into 3-4 larger pieces.  Since you pulled the Cauliflower apart, all of the florets should still be whole.

(Step 3) Now just cut the stem off of any larger pieces so that you can separate each floret apart into a bite size piece.

(Step 4) If you have florets that are too big, which you want to split.  Do not cut them in half from the top, this will results in florets that have sharp edges and ton’s of little floret pieces that break off into the cutting board.  Instead, cut the step in half, then split the floret apart with your hands.  This will result in a clean break which will leave your florets whole (aka looking like a mini tree).
