A little piece of me died today… I just found out my favorite sushi restaurant Akasaka was sold and the new owner is killing this legendary spot. Akasaka in Hacienda Heights was the best sushi restaurant in LA and I have been eating there for years. It wasn’t the fanciest place, but it served great quality fish and the owner provided huge portions. Although you paid a good amount of money, you got your money’s worth. At least, that is how I felt before their new owner took over. Here are some pictures to show you what you use to get when you would eat at Akasaka.

Akasaka was closed for “renovations” for a while, but when they re-opened it was clear that there were new owners because it was all new staff and the original owner (sushi chef) wasn’t there anymore. I haven’t been back since the new owners took over, but from what I can see on Yelp, the Akasaka I once new is dead.

Do you know where the original chef(Owner) for Akasaka went? Did she open another place? I just ate there. Such a sad experience. They lied and said that it was under the same ownership and that she was away for a family emergency.
Chris,
I am not 100% sure, but I am going to try to find out. In the past there have been times when she would close down for about a month for vacation, but when she reopened it was back to business as usual. The problem this time is they shut down for a huge remodel, then when they reopened it was a whole new staff and the owner (chef) wasn’t there. So this tells me she sold it and is gone, but I am going to try to find out. I will update this post or add to the comment thread as I find out more details.
Please do. Sakko was one of a kind !!
Any luck finding Sakko ?
Not yet. I called in a few times and no one there seems to know or they just won’t say. My friend’s dad use to play golf with Sakko and he said she has basically gone MIA. If I find out any news I will update this post, but so far no luck.
Just went to Akasaka for lunch and found ownership has changed hands once again. I inquired and was told Hisakko had retired… still decent quality sushi but it will never be the same without her.
