So after 9 weeks my balcony garden is starting to actually look like a garden! About 7 weeks ago I did a post introducing my balcony garden which was basically just dirt, today my onions and garlic have actually grown. My indoor starter kit didn’t work out because a week after my first post we had our condo repainted and I didn’t realize the painters were using spray guns in the kitchen cabinets so the fumes ended up killing of my mini green house starter kit. I’ve restarted the kit but instead of growing lettuce and greens I planted some Cherimoya seeds because I ate one for the first time the other day and I really liked it, so now I am seeing if I can grow them from seeds. Outside I have three planters that have 12 onions each, two you can see in the image above and the third is on the right side of my balcony which is shown below in the last picture of this post. I am looking forward to harvesting these onions, with this many onions I am going to have to make
me some French Onion Soup!
The garlic looks good too, they are the two planters on the right side in the image above as well as in the image below.
Yes, that is a doggy pee pad in the bottom right… that belongs to our dog Bubba. Below is a picture of my third onion planter, this planter gets the least amount of direct sun light so I was surprised to see that the onions are still growing strong in this planter.
I will do another update when the onions are ready to harvest. For my next round of vegetables I think I want to grow a wider variety of vegetables like different greens, carrots and maybe even beets. I also want to get a few 5 gallon buckets so I can try growing some potatoes.
